Alfa Romeo Giulietta – I’ve owned several Alphas over the years. Two Sprints (and the excitement of another within six months), two 16-valve 33s, a mid-80s GTV6 and…..the last one I haven’t written about yet: my Alfa Romeo Giulietta QV.
I thought it was time to type some thoughts on this car. I’ve owned it for just over three years, it’s one of the longest cars I’ve ever owned. He is also one of the best.
Alfa Romeo Giulietta
The Giulietta was one of the first Alfas of a new generation after Sergio Marchionne decided to revive the brand in the early 2000s. Almost 20 years ago, the 8C Competizione started with a new style language. It was released as a concept in 2003 and appeared on the market in 2007. Its rounded styling and prominent headlights were used in the MiTo in 2008, the Giulietta in 2010 and the 4C in 2013.

Alfa has recently launched the Giulia, Stelvio and Tonale, all of which retain the curves of the post-8C era, while sporting sleeker headlights more reminiscent of the 159/Brera line before it.
Giulietta is a beautiful hatchback. It uses the old trick of integrated rear door handles to keep the coupe look. It has a large Cuore Sportivo front grille that looks great on the stripped car, but it places the front license plate in an offset position that looks a bit silly. The QV model has 18-inch multi-spoke wheels. Later models received 5-hole TV dials, another nod to Alfa’s past.
The front lights include LED lights, while the rear lights have a circular pattern that looks great under braking. The body also makes frequent use of glass, with a glass roof that rises back from the windshield and offers two windows to look at the sky from inside the car.
Like all Alfa models, the Giulietta is unique. It’s a truly handsome hatchback in QV guise that has the smarts to match even in less performance-oriented models.
Oldtimer Alfa Romeo Giulietta Speciale, Franz Baumann
My Giulietta is a 2010 QV model with a high performance 1750 turbocharged 4-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The engine produces approximately 230 hp. with a torque of 340 Nm.
This transmission is truly a pleasure. The engine is smooth and responsive. It’s thirsty if you’re playing in dynamic mode (see below), but is remarkably frugal in 6th gear – a claimed 5.2 liters per 100km (45mpg) in highway mode, which matches my experience driving the Giuletta for several 2500 kilometers. Performance can be controlled via the Alfa DNA selector switch, which triggers different engine and suspension settings for dynamic, conventional or all-weather driving. The difference between normal and dynamic is great. The car in normal mode is by no means insane, but throttle response in dynamic mode is much more immediate and makes for a truly engaging drive.
Being a QV model, my Giulietta also got bigger brakes with red calipers – red of course makes it stop faster. Suspension is also lowered by 15mm at the front and 10mm at the rear compared to other models in the range.

The QV model features leather seats with contrast stitching, a leather steering wheel, the aforementioned glass roof, safety glass, air conditioning, cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, AR logo stitching on the headrests, brushed aluminum pedals and gear lever. .
The previous owner of my car upgraded the audio system by installing a Pioneer double DIN stereo with Apple Carplay which was mounted on a new piano black dash. The installation looked fantastic – just like it did from the factory – although it would have been better if I had done all the wiring to ensure the buttons on the steering wheel worked.
The seats are fantastic. As mentioned, I’ve done a few trips between various major cities here in Australia and they sat comfortably all day.
Mechanically, the car was perfect. That being said, the engine is a gem and has worked great for the three years I’ve owned the car. Also a gearbox.

The only mechanical problem I had was a broken lower radiator hose connector, which was not out of the question for a 10 year old car at the time.
Inside, however, this stylish and well-appointed cabin let the car down a few times. In connection with the cheapness of plastic and poor glue, it was necessary to pay attention to:
– Luke is very, very flawed. It opened just fine. It takes a little more patience (and luck) to close it. I did this once or twice and then let go and just enjoyed the glass roof in the closed position.
Apart from these minor internal problems, everything worked and the car was a real pleasure to drive for three years.
New Alfa Romeo Giulietta 2028: Its Return Increasingly Likely
The folding rear seats meant it could accommodate cargo quite well. The six-speed transmission was smooth in fast-moving situations and remarkably economical on the highway. The engine was lively on cue and pulled out of the way in normal traffic.
Handling was unimpressive. It won’t let you head into the canyon at top speed without a better suspension setup. But for the average enthusiast it was fine – a good balance between comfort and speed – and braking was more than adequate.
I’ve grown accustomed to forgiving the quirks of the various other Alphas I’ve owned. I loved them all because they made you fight their worst parts to really enjoy their best parts.
The Giulietta had very little to forgive. It was beautiful to look at, sit in, well equipped and equipped with a fantastic powerplant.
Alfa Romeo Giulietta: Alfa’s Most Important Model Ever
This little Alfa has taken me all over South East Australia – more than once. It was where my now-wife and I went on our second (and third) dates, which were beautiful moments in our budding relationship. It took me anywhere in comfort and style.
The Giulietta was one of the best cars I’ve owned and I can highly recommend it. Alphas tend to go down quite a bit, so if you spot one for sale at a good price, then do your due diligence (of course), but rest assured that you’re getting an amazing little car for the money.

When Fiat Chrysler Automobiles boss Sergio Marchionne unveiled his latest five-year plan for the FCA conglomerate, Alfa Romeo took center stage with a very promising production plan for 2018-2022. It includes revivals of the iconic GTV and 8C nameplates, as well as updated versions of the Giulia and Stelvia, which will create long-wheelbase derivatives. What about the aging Giulietta? Well, it’s on the schedule, but instead of moving on to the long-awaited new generation, Alfa Romeo won’t rest on it until 2022. That’s a little disappointing considering the hatchback has been around for about eight years, so it’s safe to say it’s getting a bit long, especially compared to competitors in a much newer segment.
